Why should you take a more proactive and prevention-based approach for pet healthcare?

The last thing you want is to rush your pet to the vet frantically, unsure if it’s doing okay or how to make it feel better. By the time you reach the clinic, the bundle of joy that always seemed to radiate boundless energy may be weak and helpless. The pet that was not just a pet, but a part of the family...

Before this scene gets the chance to play out, let’s look at how to best care for your pet.

Taking a proactive approach to managing your pet’s health

As responsible and loving pet parents, the aim is for our pets to live comfortably, get the proper care they deserve and attain the best quality of life. But many of you may ask, how do we go about achieving this?

At Pawlyclinic, we believe the answer lies in taking a proactive approach to managing your pet’s health and taking a pulse check on your pets’ health regularly.

To do so, you need to arm yourself with the right knowledge on pet prevention healthcare.

Unfortunately, the reality is pet parents often turn to the internet for such knowledge, instead of the real expert - a vet! But we understand there can be several pain points with seeing a vet physically every time you need to find out something about your pet’s health. Your regular clinic is closed, waiting times are long, your pet gets extremely stressed out from traveling to the clinic - just to name a few.

The solution? Telemedicine.

Telemedicine for humans has been around for awhile, but now you can connect with a vet and receive medical advice for your pet from the comfort of your own home too. This undoubtedly enables proactive healthcare for your pet. From physical and mental health to nutrition and behaviour, the right medical advice is just a few clicks (instead of klicks) away.

In addition, through frequent teleconsultations, your vet is able to identify early on if your pet is unwell. With early detection, your pet can start treatment promptly. This reduces the pain and discomfort your pet may experience and chances of severe deterioration.

If my pet is actually unwell, how do I know if telemedicine is suitable?

Chronic recurrent issues, such as skin conditions and behavior problems can often be addressed through telemedicine. Minor concerns, such as mild eye or ear issues and mild diarrhea, may also be good candidates. Telemedicine is also useful for pet parents with pets that are on home or palliative care. Most of these pets usually have chronic or end-stage illnesses so their parents may need advice frequently on the care and management of their pet's condition.

Although telemedicine does not provide the opportunity for a detailed medical examination, many common conditions can be treated based only on the pet's symptoms and clinical signs through telemedicine.

Have a question about your pet? Talk to a vet

However, serious and urgent health issues or injuries would require a clinic visit. Unsure what constitutes a serious health situation? Our vets on Pawlyclinic are committed to be the first responders to assess and advise pet parents if an in-person or emergency visit to a clinic is needed. If the pet’s condition is unsuitable for a teleconsultation, they will advise you accordingly and seamlessly refer you to the most convenient location out of our network of veterinary clinics for further in-clinic care.

Where do I start?

Schedule a teleconsultation for your pet with one of our vets today! Without having to leave the comfort of your home and risk upsetting your pet, you can start getting the right healthcare advice for your Fido. Additionally, from seeing pets in their most natural environment, our vets can pick up on behaviours or other clues into your pet’s health that they would not typically get to observe at the clinic.

In addition, a thorough physical exam at least once a year should also be included in your arsenal of proactive healthcare tools. With the recent release of our physical appointment scheduling function, you can also conveniently book an appointment with any of our affiliate and partner clinics for a physical consultation. This allows for better time management by guaranteeing a time with the vet and minimises waiting time in the clinic.

A complete pet care solution, enabling pet parents to take a proactive approach to managing their pet’s health and well-being. Omnipresent, simple and efficient. Because we think that’s how veterinary care should be.
